Conference Of Igbogbo Indigenes In Public Service Gets New Executives

The Conference of Igbogbo Indigenes In Civil and Public Service (COIICPS) has elected and inaugurated a new executive council to oversee its affairs for the next two years.

The new executive council, led by Dr. Wole Ogunyemi, FCIB, an Associate Professor with the Department of Agricultural Economics, Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), took over from Prince Gbenga Ogunlewe led executives that completed its term on Friday.

Other COIICPS executive members that were inaugurated during the Public Service Day of the 2024 Igbogbo Day Celebration, were Tpl. Tawakalitu Akinsanya (Vice President 1), Mr Olugbenga Oduniyi (Vice President 2¬¬), Mr. Hammed Sholanke (Secretary), Mr. Sheriff Adekoya (Assistant Secretary), ⁠Mr. Kazeem Ogunmuyiwa (Treasurer), Mrs. Adebusayo Odivbri Ogunlewe (Financial Secretary), Dr. Adeleke Dankuwo (Welfare Officer) and Mr. Idris Adesina (PRO).

A retired Clerk/Permanent Secretary, Lagos State House of Assembly, Otunba Ganiyu Abiru, delivered this year’s Public Service Day Lecture, themed, ‘After Retirement, What’s Next’.

Dr Oluwole Ogunyemi, in his acceptance speech, thanked members of the conference and stakeholders in Igbogbo, for the trust reposed in the new team and assured that they will hit the ground running immediately.

He also unveiled a quarterly agenda of the administration.

“Indeed, it is an honour that I stand before a section, part of the present and future glories, of Igbogbo Kingdom, to accept the position of the President of COIICPS after my unanimous appointment.

“On behalf of myself and other members of the newly inaugurated Executive Committee of the COIICPS, I wish to sincerely thank all members of the Conference for considering us worthy to serve our town, the Land of Cool Beauty.

“Today, you have shown that you trust us that we can add value to individual members and group as a whole.

“Kabiyesi, HRM, Oba Semiudeen O. Kasali, the guest speaker of today, Otunba Ganiyu O. Abiru, Prince Waheed A. Kasali, ladies and gentlemen, let me assure you that we shall start our work immediately by organizing ‘Sharing Experience Series’ periodically. The frequency and details of this practical idea will be discussed with other members of the COIICPS.

“I can assure you that the new exco members are men and women that are vibrant, intelligent and progressively dynamic. On this basis, one or two other programs will be added. What we need from you are support and motivation through active participation”, he said.

While thanking the Igbogbo Day Planning Committee, Dr Oluwole also sought for tge cooperation and support from stakeholders for a successful tenure.

“At this juncture, I thank the Igbogbo Day Planning Committee under IDEA, for this annual event. Also, I extend my gratitude to the pioneer President of the Conference, Engr Gbenga Adegbite Ogunlewe, and his executive members that laid solid and enduring foundation for the COIICPS. Be rest assured that we shall build on it progressively.

“The newly inaugurated Executive Council of COIICPS, which you have entrusted its leadership to my person, sincerely say a very big thank you to Adeboruwa-In-Council and all sons and daughters of Igbogbo, for this uncommon honour.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we have a great task ahead of us. Let us be on the trip together and with your ooperation, we shall end well”, he pleaded.

In his lecture, Otunba Ganiyu Abiru, the Executive Secretary, Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative (IDPIL), charged civil and public servants in Igbogbo, to cooperate fully and identify with their colleagues in other parts of the division, to promote unity and work together.

He enjoined COIICPS to rally round and support the Adeboruwa in the development of Igbogbo.

Speaking on the service, the retired Clerk/Permanent Secretary, Lagos State House of Assembly, charged the public servants to start preparing for the retirement day through savings and going into an alternative source of income. He also advised them to acquire a skill.

Furthermore in his lecture, Otunba Abiru was of the view that civil servants should embrace annuity pension program which offers them the opportunity of getting payment for life and also that they should join cooperative societies.

While asking them to ensure good health and check their lifestyles, Otunba Abiru also charged them to invest more of their resources on their wives at home.

The Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, HRM Oba Semiudeen Kasali, in his royal remarks, charged members of COIICPS on the need for early preparations and better mobilization for next year.

While urging the civil servants to continue to be diligent and committed to their duties, Oba Kasali said that the topic is an important one that more public officers must benefit from.

The royal father, who himself is a former public servant, also asked serving officers of the state, to do good to their colleagues, especially the junior ones, so that they can still be reckoned with after their retirement and welcome back to the office anytime.

Prince Shakirudeen Odusanya, former General Manager, Lagos State Printing Corporation, in his remarks, charged civil servants to put on thinking caps to determine what they can do aside from their paid job.

He said that they should open their eyes to their surroundings and discover what they have passion for in order to develop another alternative source of income.

He charged them to start their retirement plan now and not wait till its five years to their retirement.

Speaking earlier, Engr. Gbenga Ogunlewe, the outgone COIICPS President, thanked members for their support for his administration and congratulated the new executives.

He was represented by Mr Hameed Sholanke.

At the event, meritorious awards were presented to Prince Shakirudeen Odusanya, Mr Gabriel Olalekan Eyikogbe, Mrs Titilola Adedipe, Mr Paul Taiwo Adeniji, Prince Adebisi Ogunlewe, Mrs Ajibola Iyabo Ojikutu, Mr Tolani Ogunyemi, Mr Idowu Adeniji, Mrs Beatrice Olufunke Bakare and Mr Babatunde Afuwape.

Present at the event were Mr Waheed Kasali, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Tertiary Education, Mr Titilope Andu – Balogun, Chairman, Igbogbo Day Planning Committee, Mr Ayokunle Sulaimon, Treasurer, Igbogbo Day Committee, Mr Dare Oshikoya, Publicity Secretary, IKODASS and traditional chiefs.
